New in 2020 – when you purchase a Poster Set or Desktop Edition, you also receive immediate access to The 5PKC Online Education Course that includes nearly two hours of video and seven handouts specifically designed to help give you a more in-depth understanding of how to utilize The 5 Primary Kinetic Chains in the therapeutic assessment process and for client education.
The 5 Primary Kinetic Chains poster set is a superb visual reference for teachers and students of movement and anatomy, as well as manual therapists, chiropractors, physical therapists, and their clients alike.
The 5 Primary Kinetic Chains (5PKC) are based on the theorem behind Andry Vleeming’s Core Subsystems and how those subsystems connect the entire fascial fabric through the kinetic chains. Each chart outlines a primary physiological principle in movement: bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and fascia do not work in isolation. They work synergistically to create movement. When movement is balanced and efficient, the players are all cooperating.
This beautifully illustrated laminated 11×17 five poster set uses the walking gait to demonstrate how The 5 Primary Kinetic Chains work together to unify the body. Why use walking as a barometer of health, movement, and vitality? Simply because it is the one thing that most of us do daily and are either doing so – integrated, which boosts vitality, or compensated – which is detracting from vitality.
When looking at the human potential perspective, the integration of the 5PKC and the Principal Actions (explained in greater detail here) are a baseline for our health. Clean air, water, food, and movement are the foundation of our human existence. By looking at our anatomy through the lens of movement, it offers a shift of how we are looking at the body. Rather than the traditional lens of looking at our anatomy muscle by muscle, the 5PKC allow us to see how a muscle/s interacts with the rest of the structure. Suddenly our lens opens and becomes the big picture. The 5PKC posters demonstrate how that interaction happens.
Each chart has been organized in an easy to follow format. The columns are organized to identify joint actions, prime movers, and synergists. Color is added to further discern the core subsystems, the prime movers and the synergists in both the charts and illustrations.

“I was asked a few weeks back to look at Joseph Schwartz work regarding his 5 primary chains. I do not give my endorsement unless it resonates strongly with me personally and professionally and this 100% did. I love the way Joseph has not just followed the current trend, which would have been easy to do but has established his own beliefs and theories. The way he has expressed the principles of the translation of energy in relation to the spiral effects that occur within the body brings about evolution and the future of this concept in the now. In addition the way it has been presented and constructed is truly first class. If any of my movement friends want to understand how the body connects during motion please see Joseph’s work. This is a must for all movement professionals.” ~ Stephan Braybrook author “The Evolution of BioMechanics”

“Joseph Schwartz of Applied Anatomy is one of the most brilliant teachers I’ve had the privilege and pleasure to work with and learn from. I was fortunate enough to be one of his guinea pig students while he was developing The 5 Primary Kinetic Chains. I’m excited to see the fruition of this work… These beautifully
made posters. I cannot describe how much learning about The 5 Primary Kinetic Chains has helped
evolve my work. Not a day goes by, that a nugget of something Joseph said, lands in a way that helps me see what is missing in my clients movement. These posters will be replacing the Anatomy Trains posters I’ve had for years. They are a revolutionary vision of understanding and teaching human movement. If you are in the business of helping people move better then get these while now before the price goes up.” Jesse James, The Art of Fitness

“I have taken classes and gotten sessions with Joseph over several years and have
been lucky enough to see these posters in development. In the posters, Joseph
combines his technical mastery of the body with a generosity of spirit that will be
familiar to anyone who knows him. The posters are not only deeply informative, but
they strive to help others in the clearest, most appealing way possible. Both
clients and practitioners will be drawn to them and learn something a bit different
each time. Thank you, Joseph, for this generous gift to our community. May we all
love our bodies a little bit more for your wisdom.” Gabi Marcus, Bodyworks

I must say, I pre-ordered and have patiently waited the arrival of these beautiful posters!
I am both a Crital Care RN & Orthopedic Massage Therapist & I do a lot of corrective therapy. These posters are not only visually appealing, but the amount of information contained AND that is extremely easy to follow & find quickly is just unbelievable!
So you have multiple ways of using it…
If you know a muscle action a client has trouble with etc… you can locate ACTION & see muscles that may be strained or inhibited etc or needs strengthening….
If you know you need to strengthen a muscle but unsure exactly which ones do ‘that action… & it will list the muscle(s) responsible so you can then provide targeted client homework goals.
If you’re “rusty” on a muscle’s action… locate NAME of muscle… & it tells you exactly it’s action & what OTHER muscles (synergists) help it.
Great charts! Replacing some of my others!

Just received my kinetic chain posters today and I can’t even begin to describe how beautiful and well done these are. I am so very grateful for your hard work, time and efforts put forth in producing such a fine finished product. They will be displayed prominently in my studio as I look forward to helping my clients further understand the complexities of movement in relation to their own bodies. These will be such an asset!!

Beautiful, informative posters! Pretty enough to hang for decoration, but practical enough to use for education. Perfect. Thanks so much for adding the videos, too! Namaste

Love, love, love this set! The only thing I’d have liked more is for the poster size to be larger for those of us that don’t see as well as we used to. Truly a powerful teaching tool.
